Invisible Dynamics: Systemic Constellations in Organisations and Business
Dr. Klaus Horn & Regine Brick

6.5.2010 Espoo, Hanasaari (kurssi muutettu yksipäiväiseksi!)

The company isn't booming, the customers are drifting away, innovation is at a standstill – What's wrong? A rational analysis can provide you with pieces of the problem, but never the whole picture. Systemic constellations give you the missing link. Success with this method in companies such as Daimler-Chrysler, IBM, and BMW has contributed to a booming interest in Europe.

The success of individuals and organisations, like the success of a football team, depends upon each person in the line-up being in the right position, with a clear acknowledgement of their performance and position. This optimal fit within the system promotes synergy.

When the systemic structure of a team, company or market becomes clear, it is obvious what has to happen next. Individuals who are not involved in the problem situation are used to represent people or parts of the company and a trained consultant uses feedback from the representatives to reveal hidden dynamics and point to solutions.
(Horn & Brick 2005: Invisible Dynamics: Systemic Constellations in Organisations and Business)

For whom
This seminar is meant for entrepreneurs, managers, directors, consultants, educators, therapists, and others, who want to explore their issues from a different perspective. Organization developers and others, who want to learn more about organizational constellations, can also benefit from the seminar.

The constellation approach
Systemic Constellation was first developed by the German therapist Bert Hellinger. In this therapeutic approach, we consider the individual as part of a greater whole – a family system, or an organization – rather than as a separate entity. His individual behaviour, feelings and attitudes have to be understood in the context of this larger group. As in any other system, unspoken laws operating in the family, or in the organization, guide behaviour that we, as system members, are largely unaware of.

The way we bring these hidden system dynamics to light is to have the client use the help of other group participants to create a constellation.

How are Systemic Constellations set up?
After an issue holder describes an dilemma concerning her or his business, work, or success, including what needs to be different, the facilitator identifies the key elements of that dilemma. The issue holder then chooses other workshop participants to represent those elements: colleagues, family members, work, money, customers, suppliers, owners, workers, governments, The Stock Exchange, other stakeholders, nations or ethnic groups, even more conceptual elements like resources, limitations, goals, faith or the future. These elements are then intuitively placed in relation to each other. What is surprising is that the representatives are able to feel deeply and report accurately the experience of those they are representing. This reveals hidden dynamics that are worked with creatively to explore new and deep perspectives that go below conventional awareness to reveal profound resolutions.
